The Legendary Bruce Bickford is a name many animators know but have no real knowledge of. His work for Frank Zappa and his own personal work ”Prometheus’ Garden” are often talked about with high praise and echoed through the halls of legend. His style is so different, so chaotic and constantly evolving that many non-animators or fans approach his work as if the guy was on drugs or completely out of his mind. For those of us with real honest admiration for the mans work and achievements, we can now dive deeper into his world with the documentary “Monster Road”.
Though the film has been out for awhile, it has been a little hard to locate for home viewing. That’s no longer the case with recent release of the film at HULU.com which will allow you to watch the whole film online. This deep dive into the thinking and workings of Mr. Bruce Bickford and his family really gives the viewer a personal view into the life and workings of this masterfully creative legend of stop motion clay animation.
I’ve embedded the film into this post for easy access. Be forewarned that the film may not be accessible to viewers in countries other then the U.S. But give it a try and see if it works.
