Wes Andersons Isle of Dogs and Aardmans Early Man have been submitted to the The Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences for Best Animated Feature Oscar. Currently they are the only major stop motion animated films submitted for nomination within this category.
Aardman which took home $54 Million Worldwide for their film Early Man was a international hit with young audiences. While coming off of the heels of a $1 Billion take home for global box office receipts the feature film Isle of Dogs is considered a world wide smash and is up against some very steep competition. Namely Disney/Pixars feature film The Incredibles 2 is positioned to dominate this category due to both its popularity and the Academy’s tendency to vote Disney each year. The official selection of nominees will be announced January 22, 2019 for the Academy Awards 91st session.
So do these films deserve to win? In short, Yes! The amount of artistry and work placed into these specific films, along with the writing and performance by all involved makes both films masterpiece’s. Yet will one of them win? Our fingers are crossed on this one and honestly this is a gamble given the history of the members voting trend. It is seriously a major challenge for any film to compete against a Disney animated feature. However, it definitely looks as though the films will be nominated given both their artistry and appeal to the audiences worldwide.
