Los Aeronautas by León Fernández was widely received with world wide acclaim as if journed through the international film and animation circuit. This film is dark but in a way that borders on the type of dark echoed by films such as the Dark Crystal or The Never Ending Story. In this film we find a tribe of little beings who have a winged master for whom they must satisfy with the harvest fo their local crops in the hopes to reach the dreamed of paradise beyond their reach. Yet only one of them will learn the real answer.
The film produced in Mexico is one of the many examples of latin american high art stop motion animation. The visuals, designs, puppets, and scenery are all breath taking. This film deserves a watching and maybe a second and a third after that. The animation and expression along with the deeper message make this film a modern classic and one that should both have high praise and accolades abound. Checkout the film below.
