The Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts is set to captivate audiences with its upcoming exhibit, “Animation: Script to Screen,” dedicated to the intricate art of stop-motion animation. Scheduled from June 20 to 22 at the Lakewood Center for the Arts and George Rogers Park in Lake Oswego, Oregon, this showcase offers a deep dive into the meticulous processes behind beloved stop-motion films.
Curated in collaboration with the Museum of Stop Motion Animation (MOSMA) and Tiffany Schuster, the exhibit features contributions from esteemed studios such as LAIKA, HouseSpecial, ShadowMachine, and Tippett Studio. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to engage with industry professionals, explore original scripts, detailed storyboards, and immerse themselves in the world of puppet fabrication. The exhibition aims to illuminate the four pivotal stages of filmmaking: pre-production, animation, cinematography, and post-production.
Stop-motion animation, a technique that brings static objects to life through frame-by-frame manipulation, has a storied history enriched by technological advancements. Studios like LAIKA have been at the forefront, seamlessly integrating traditional craftsmanship with modern innovations such as 3D printing and digital effects. Their acclaimed works, including “Coraline” and “Kubo and the Two Strings,” exemplify the evolution and enduring charm of this art form.
The Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts, established in 1963, has long been a cultural cornerstone, drawing approximately 30,000 visitors annually. Presented by the Lakewood Center for the Arts, a non-profit organization committed to arts education and performance, the festival continues to offer diverse artistic experiences to the community.
Admission to the festival is free, with a suggested donation to support its ongoing efforts. Shuttle services will be available for attendees’ convenience.
