Celebrity Death Match the classic stop motion television series that pits famous persons of interest into a no holds barge battle to the death is set for a new revival. MTV just announced that the legendary fan favorite television show would be helmed by Rap Artist/Actor/Director Ice Cube who will hold the role of Executive Producer and also be a regular on the show. He will be teaming up with Executive Producer Jeff Kwatinetz along with series creator Eric Fogel and co-Executive Producer Ben Hurwitz. The series is to be a weekly show available on a future subscription based streaming service that is yet to be announced. The show is also anticipated to be the spring board for video games, merchandise, and more all based on the series.
Chris McCarthy President of MTV, VH1, and CMT stated “We’re excited to grow our partnership with Ice Cube and Cube Vision to reimagine this fan favorite. Deathmatch was the meme before memes, remains a hot topic on social media and will be a smart, funny way to tackle the over-the-top rhetoric of today’s pop culture where it belongs – in the wrestling ring.”
This is great news not just for MTV but also the fans of the series. The show was very popular and ran from 1998-2001 and then relaunched in 2006 and 2007. The show as anticipated to be released sometime in 2019.
Ice Cube has said about the project “Happy to once again be working with Viacom and MTV on a fan favorite like Celebrity Deathmatch and to continue our success together,”
So it looks like this will be a major project that has probably already started production. It is still not know where production will take place. We will keep you posted if we hear more about the project.
