Rizzoli and LAIKA Partner on Five-Title Publishing Collection Celebrating 20 Years of Stop-Motion Innovation
LAIKA, the award-winning studio behind Coraline, Kubo and the Two Strings, and The Boxtrolls, has joined forces with Rizzoli Universe Publishing for an ambitious, multi-title publishing collaboration celebrating two decades of handcrafted animation. The partnership will span five major releases between 2026 and 2027, blending art books and collectible decks that showcase LAIKA’s creative legacy and behind-the-scenes artistry.
Leading the collection is LAIKA: The Magic Behind a Stop-Motion Dream Factory, arriving on March 10, 2026. Written by Ozzy Inguanzo with a foreword by Mark Salisbury, the 240-page hardcover offers a rare glimpse inside the studio’s creative process—from early script development and set construction to puppet fabrication, lighting, and cutting-edge 3D face printing. The book promises newly photographed production stills, archival artwork, and interviews with the artists and technicians who shaped LAIKA’s world-renowned style. It’s already available for preorder through major booksellers at $45 USD.
Following its release, Rizzoli will publish The Art of Wildwood in Fall 2026, coinciding with the premiere of LAIKA’s highly anticipated feature directed by Travis Knight. Additional titles in development include a newly expanded Art of Coraline, exploring the studio’s groundbreaking debut, as well as two collectible decks inspired by LAIKA’s films—a Coraline Oracle Deck & Guidebook (Fall 2026) and a LAIKA Tarot Deck & Guidebook (Fall 2027). Each release aims to blend the studio’s distinct visual storytelling with Rizzoli’s signature craftsmanship in art publishing.
For the animation community, this collaboration represents far more than a series of companion books. It’s a deep dive into LAIKA’s evolution—how traditional puppet-making techniques and digital technologies have merged to redefine modern stop-motion filmmaking. Every title is designed to celebrate the tactile artistry, narrative ambition, and technical breakthroughs that have made LAIKA a creative force in animation for nearly twenty years.
Produced under the Rizzoli Universe imprint, the collection underscores the growing cultural appreciation for behind-the-scenes artistry in animation. These volumes are expected to become definitive resources for animators, educators, and collectors alike, offering inspiration and insight into one of the most innovative studios in the world.
