LEGO and Aardman Partner to Inspire Creativity Through Stop Motion
Billund, Denmark & Bristol, UK – August 11, 2025 – Two creative powerhouses, the LEGO Group and Aardman Animations, are joining forces. Together they want to inspire children everywhere to build, play, and tell stories through stop motion.
The partnership combines LEGO’s iconic bricks with Aardman’s award-winning animation style, best known from Wallace & Gromit and Shaun the Sheep. At the center of the collaboration is a stop-motion challenge hosted inside the LEGO Play app. Kids can direct their own animations and even see their ideas featured in an official Aardman story.
Meet Boop: Aardman’s New Clay Alien
To kick things off, Aardman created a one-minute short film introducing Boop. Boop is a curious alien made of clay who suddenly lands in a LEGO brick world. There, the character meets minifigures and starts an unexpected adventure.
What happens next? That’s where kids come in. The LEGO Group and Aardman are asking young creators to finish Boop’s story using stop motion.
Alongside the short film, Aardman will release five mini-films to inspire participants. These include Build Your Own Boop, which shows children how to craft their own version of the character.

Creative Challenge Through the LEGO Play App
LEGO Play is a kid-safe app where builders can share creations, play games, and unlock creative tools. For this challenge, kids can join the LEGO Insiders Club, design their own avatar, and upload animated shorts inspired by Boop’s journey. The app is available in 76 countries and 25 languages across iOS and Android.
Anna Rafferty, SVP of Digital Consumer Engagement at the LEGO Group, called the collaboration “incredibly exciting,” adding that it’s “a unique opportunity to inspire kids in new ways and explore more opportunities with Aardman in the future.”
Sarah Cox, Aardman’s Chief Creative Director, echoed the excitement:
“At Aardman we are all huge fans of LEGO, so to collaborate with our dream partners has been a complete joy. This partnership is built on mutual respect and a shared commitment to creativity and play—which unites the brick and the clay.”
Learn from the Experts
To support the challenge, director Magda Osinska will host a workshop on LEGO.com. In addition, tutorials from LEGO fan creators and influencers will be available to guide kids through stop motion basics.
This makes the project not only fun, but also educational. Children will learn storytelling skills, filmmaking techniques, and the joy of creative play.

LEGO Play App: A Creative Hub
The challenge takes place inside the LEGO Play app, a safe space for young builders. Here kids can:
-
Share their own creations
-
Play games and watch videos
-
Experiment with stop motion tools
Those who want to participate can join the LEGO Insiders Club. Membership allows them to upload animations, create an avatar, and unlock exclusive content. The app is available in 76 countries and 25 languages on iOS and Android.
A Collaboration Built on Play
Anna Rafferty, SVP of Digital Consumer Engagement at the LEGO Group, explained the excitement:
“To work with the iconic Aardman Animations is incredibly exciting. We hope young builders find this a unique opportunity. Together with Aardman, we’re excited to explore more ways to inspire kids in the future.”
Sarah Cox, Chief Creative Director at Aardman, added:
“At Aardman we are all huge fans of LEGO, so to collaborate with our dream partners has been a complete joy. This partnership is built on respect, openness and a shared commitment to creativity and play.”
LEGO Ideas: Wallace & Gromit in Brick Form
The collaboration also announced the first official LEGO Ideas Wallace & Gromit set, giving fans the opportunity to recreate the inventive duo in LEGO form. True to Aardman’s quirky humor and design style, the set will delight both LEGO collectors and stop-motion fans. Launch is scheduled for 2026.

A Partnership of Play and Storytelling
Both companies share a mission to spark imagination through play. LEGO’s system of endless brick possibilities meets Aardman’s tradition of character-driven animation, inviting children everywhere to become directors of their own stop-motion adventures.
With Boop’s story just beginning, the stage is set for a new generation of young animators to explore the intersection of brick and clay.
