“A little boy is playing with his colorful matchsticks. While he is talking about his dreams, fears and hopes, the matchsticks bring his visions to life. The film is based on an interview with the 7-year-old L. S.”

The animator discovered when making the film, that his imagination was also thriving trough the boy´s words and remembered his own stories. While in quarantine, he wants to explore the option of a 2 minute series of clips called “Mix Match” in which to tell different imaginative stories.

Here´s the newest press release!:

“KEDD Animation Studio, Budapest, Hungary – After 10 years Géza M. Tóth came out with a new animated short film, which was immediately nominated for a number of awards. The Oscar-nominee Hungarian filmmaker’s Maestro, was nominated for the 2007 Oscars, and his newest short film, Matches has come also close to the Oscars this year, since was picked as best animated short at the Foyle Film Festival.

“Matches” is based on a highly witty concept and stands out from his previous works by building his film on a creative partnership with the audience. While playing with his colorful matchsticks, a little boy is talking about his dreams, fears and hopes. The matchsticks bring his visions to life. The film is based on an interview with a 7-year-old child and delivers a poignant and highly creative animation of the young boy’s philosophy of life entirely through match sticks.

In addition Matches being emotive in the storytelling, can be also considered as a visual experiment in perception psychology. The creative and playful visuals and the  surprising sound design  create mood and emotions.”
