Platypus Reclayed: Clay-Animated Classic Returns September 18th

Claymatic Games has announced the long-awaited release of Platypus Reclayed, the clay-animated shoot-em-up set to launch September 18, 2025, on PC, Mac, PlayStation 4|5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.

Reimagined from the ground up, Platypus Reclayed isn’t just a remaster—it’s a full rebuild of the cult classic arcade shooter first released in 2002. With brand-new clay models captured in stunning 4K widescreen, revamped gameplay, additional weapons, and entirely new stages, the game brings back everything fans loved about the original while expanding it for a modern audience.

A Claymation Pioneer Returns

The original Platypus, designed by Anthony Flack, was one of the earliest indie success stories—well before “indie games” became mainstream. Its unique clay-animated art style, tactile design, and straightforward arcade mechanics made it a critical and commercial hit, with a dedicated fan community that has remained active for over two decades.

Now, 23 years later, Flack has teamed up with Claymatic Games to deliver the definitive edition. “We wanted to go in the other direction,” Flack explains, “providing a one-button shmup that’s fun from the moment you pick it up. Instead of complicated combos or long tutorials, you get right to the action.”

What’s New in Platypus Reclayed

While staying true to its roots, the new version offers a wide range of enhancements:

  • Two-Player Co-op: Drop-in local multiplayer for fast, frantic fun.

  • All-New Clay Animation: Every model has been remade and photographed in 4K HD.

  • Fresh Content: A new stage, remixed levels, new enemies, and additional weapons.

  • Game Modes: Practice mode and the high-stakes Score Attack (single-life challenge).

  • Soundtrack Remixes: Officially licensed C64audio remixes of classic 1980s game tunes, plus the return of the original soundtrack.

  • Adjustable Difficulty: From casual players to shmup veterans, there’s a challenge level for everyone.

  • Modding Support: Designed with the community in mind, Reclayed encourages fan-made expansions.

Claymatic Games and Community Spirit

Claymatic Games, a small indie studio passionate about stop-motion animation, emphasizes open development and fan interaction. They describe their mission as creating “straightforward, honest games with uncomplicated and effective mechanics” that deliver replayable fun. The studio has already fostered a strong online community eager to mod and expand the Platypus universe.

With its claymation roots and modern upgrades, Platypus Reclayed offers both a nostalgic trip for long-time fans and an exciting entry point for new players. Whether you’re blasting through enemies on your lunch break or teaming up with a friend for some couch co-op chaos, this clay shooter is ready to reclaim its place in arcade history.

Platypus Reclayed launches September 18, 2025. Wishlist now on Steam or visit Claymatic Games for more information.
