Piccolo Festival dell’Animazione 2025 Opens Its Doors This November
Italy’s Piccolo Festival dell’Animazione is once again preparing to light up the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region with its unique blend of short animated films, masterclasses, and community events. Running from November 15 to 23, 2025, the festival has long been known for its “widespread and polycentric” approach, spreading screenings and activities across towns such as Trieste, Udine, Gorizia, Pordenone, and San Vito al Tagliamento.
This year’s call for entries has officially closed, and the programming team is now hard at work curating a fresh lineup of international shorts. In past editions, audiences have been treated to a wide variety of work—ranging from experimental pieces and music-driven visuals to kid-friendly animations and bold first-time projects. It’s a festival that thrives on diversity, both in style and geography, giving equal weight to voices from Italy and around the world.
What makes Piccolo Festival dell’Animazione special is its mix of art and accessibility. Instead of gathering everyone in a single theater, it brings animation directly into different communities, opening its doors to families, students, and cinephiles alike. Alongside the screenings, visitors can look forward to workshops, filmmaker talks, exhibitions, and live performances, all designed to celebrate animation as a living, breathing art form.
The event is also guided by a strong sense of cultural exchange. Whether you’re watching a quirky stop-motion short, a poetic ecological fable, or a visually striking music video, the festival offers a chance to connect with animation in all its forms. And for the filmmakers whose works are selected, it provides an invaluable opportunity to meet other artists, exchange ideas, and build international networks.
With submissions now closed, all eyes are on the festival’s November reveal. Expect a program that blends the playful and the profound, the experimental and the crowd-pleasing—a true reflection of what contemporary animation has to offer.
So if you happen to be in northeastern Italy this fall, make space on your calendar. The Piccolo Festival dell’Animazione is more than just a film event—it’s a regional celebration of creativity that proves animation can belong everywhere, from big city theaters to small town piazzas.
