BREAKING EXCLUSIVE!!!
Guillermo Del Toro’s first venture into stop motion animation is marked to be a major in cinema with the help of stop motion power house Shadow Machine and puppet legends Jim Henson Company. Del Toro’s film which is to be produced for NETFLIX is set in a fascist world of 1930’s Italy and will be a musical according to official press releases. The overall design of the film will be based on legendary graphic novelist Griss Grimly’s designs. Given recent announcements by Del Toro about setting up a stop motion/animation collective/studio in Guadalajara-Mexico called the Centro de International Animación / El Taller De Churcho. It becomes no surprise that the modern day film making legend would also be producing a portion of the Pinocchio production in Mexico as well. According to a brief conversation at FICG (Festival International De Cine en Guadalajara) between StopMotion Nerds representative and with Shadow Machine producer Alex Buckley, “part of the production will be in Mexico”. This is very big news given that Mexico is quickly becoming one of the most recognized animation locations in the world for its talented independent artists and studios.
There still is no word exactly where the actual location of the main production will take place but we assume it will be in either Portland Oregon or Los Angeles California due to the two locations of the Shadow Machine studios.
Stay tuned for more breaking news as it develops.
