Shaun the Sheep – Aardman

Shaun the Sheep Returns: Aardman Announces Third Feature Film, The Beast of Mossy Bottom

Aardman Animations has officially announced the production of a third feature-length film in the beloved Shaun the Sheep franchise. Titled Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom, the film is slated for release in 2026 and promises a Halloween-themed adventure filled with the series’ signature humor and charm.(The Guardian)

A Spooky New Adventure

In this upcoming installment, the residents of Mossy Bottom Farm are preparing for Halloween festivities when the Farmer inadvertently destroys the flock’s cherished pumpkin patch. In an attempt to rectify the situation, Shaun embarks on a scientific endeavor that spirals out of control, leading to the emergence of a mysterious beast roaming the woods of Mossingham (Aardman, 2025).(The Guardian)

Sarah Cox, Aardman’s Chief Creative Director, described the film as delivering “family-friendly thrills to this light-hearted, spooky Halloween adventure,” featuring “smashed pumpkins, wayward science, and a wild hairy beast on the loose in Mossy Bottom” (Aardman, 2025).(The Sun)

Creative Team and Production

The film is directed by Steve Cox (Shaun the Sheep: The Flight Before Christmas) and Matthew Walker (Lloyd of the Flies), with a screenplay by Mark Burton (Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl) and Giles Pilbrow (Horrible Histories) (Cartoon Brew, 2025). Richard Beek serves as producer, while Nick Park, Peter Lord, Carla Shelley, and Sarah Cox are executive producers (Aardman, 2025).(Wikipedia, The Guardian)

Distribution will be handled by Sky Cinema in the United Kingdom and StudioCanal internationally, with the latter launching global sales at the Cannes Film Market (Cartoon Brew, 2025).(The Guardian)

Franchise Legacy

Shaun the Sheep originated as a character in the 1995 Wallace & Gromit short film A Close Shave and has since become a global phenomenon. The character has starred in six television series, with a seventh reportedly in development, and two previous feature films: Shaun the Sheep Movie (2015) and A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon (2019) (The Guardian, 2025).(The Guardian)

The franchise’s universal appeal is attributed to its wordless storytelling and relatable themes, allowing it to resonate with audiences worldwide. The television series is broadcast in over 170 territories, and a Shaun the Sheep-themed park operates in Japan (The Guardian, 2025).(The Guardian)

Conclusion

Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom is poised to continue Aardman’s tradition of delivering heartwarming and humorous content suitable for all ages. With its Halloween backdrop and the return of beloved characters, the film is anticipated to be a delightful addition to the franchise’s legacy.(The Guardian)
