A spool of thread makes an unlikely leading character, but SoDaze’s films for Strathberry give it a compelling job. In Crafting the Mosaic Nano and Crafting the Mini Tote, the materials and tools behind the finished handbags become the performers. The campaign turns construction into a small-scale spectacle, inviting viewers to notice work that a conventional product image leaves invisible.
The Mosaic Nano film places its objects against a rich green background. A wooden spool, pale thread, and pencil establish a workshop vocabulary before the completed bag arrives. The limited palette lets the warm leather and the thread’s delicate line hold attention. The brand describes the bag as comprising more than 60 pattern pieces and over 900 stitches. [1]
Making ordinary materials hold a pose
Animator Alina Golovlova of SoDaze explained the approach. A spool and thread guide one film, while a leatherworker’s tool called a Patacabra drives the other. The objects, hardware, and titles were physically animated, including lettering made with thread. [2]
Materials needed help to perform. Fine wire inside the thread allowed it to retain poses, while leather required experiments with pins and supports. For the embroidery, stitches were prepared loosely and then tightened from beneath the fabric in tiny increments. Golovlova put the combined preparation, shooting, and post-production for that brief effect at six days; a separate shimmer made with beads took two days of hand adjustment. [2]
Those choices give the campaign a particularly apt relationship between subject and medium. Both the product and its presentation depend on handling materials with care. Thread can suggest a drawing line, a construction tool, and a character’s path through a scene. Its changing role connects the individual actions without requiring a conventional puppet.
The strongest visual idea is also the simplest: let the tools take the audience toward the finished object. The final bag then feels like the outcome of a process. That sense of arrival gives a short commercial a satisfying structure, while the photographed textures keep the work grounded in leather, wood, and fiber.
For anyone interested in object animation, the films offer a compact study in finding performance within everyday materials. A recognizable object can remain entirely itself while movement gives it intention.
