This 1:20hr documentary Phill Tippett: Mad Dreams and Monsters from Frenetic Arts, focuses on his work and legacy and how it has inspired generations of artist, filmmakers, actors, designers, etc. , through access of his archives, collections and interviews with people who worked with him.
French documentary directors Gilles Penso y Alexandre Poncet, have already Ray Harryhausen – Special Effects Titan and Creature Designers: The Frankenstein Complex under their belt. Inspired by Ray Harryhausen´s work, Tippett´s love for stop motion and monsters achieved so much credibility that his creatures became small actors: not just reacting but acting, making audiences forget that what they´re looking at is a puppet.
By the time he had to make the transition to CGI (Jurassic Park), with a little resistance at first, his perfectionist work nature came trough, as always.
Screened at different festivals, hope we don´t have to wait long to see it.
